Blog 7 Easy Exercise Routines to Keep Your Dog Healthy

Your dog’s health is a vital component of their overall well-being. Getting your dog up and exercising is essential to their health, both physical and mental, as well as ensuring that they don’t act out due to inactivity. Here are seven easy exercise routines to keep your dog healthy.

Running with Your Dog

Going for a run with your dog is a mutually benefitting experience. Not only can you get an exercise in, but your dog will also get a great workout. This exercise increases your dog’s stamina and strengthens their muscles. Many veterinarians agree that this is an excellent way for your dog to get their exercise in. However, you must remember that this your dogs exercise time. You must be willing to stop whenever they want to stop. Your dog is also going to want to find a lot of new smells. You should let your dog explore, sniff, and greet people.

Flyball to Keep Your Dog Healthy

Flyball is a fabulous high-energy sport for your dog to get involved in. In this organized dog sport, teams of dog’s race against each other from the start/finish line, over a string of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball. The sport is run in teams, and the course consists of four hurdles placed ten feet apart from each other, with the starting line six feet from the first hurdle, and the flyball box 15 feet after the last one, making for a 51-foot length. The sport is high energy and will get your dog moving and keep them healthy.

Agility Group

If your dog has a lot of energy or some pounds to shed, a significant move would be to find an agility group to get out all of that energy. Agility group is a high energy, running, and jumping competitive sport. It is truly a great form of exercise, but it also develops confidence and new skills. Agility is also great for fulfilling your dog’s instincts or hunting and catching “prey.” An agility group will also strengthen your bond between you and your dog, and there’s nothing better than that.

Simple Game of Fetch

A good old-fashioned game of fetch can be all that is needed for your dog’s daily exercise routine. Fetch is easy to squeeze into busy schedules, and you don’t need to travel far to play. All you need is a safe stick or a ball and a beautiful grassy area. Depending on your dog’s size, an hour or two will get them all the exercise they need to stay healthy and happy.

Playing with Other Dogs

Playing with other dogs is something that your dog would do naturally, and that’s the best form of exercise. Bringing your dog to a dog park, having them play with friend’s pets, or if you have more than one dog, letting all of them play together to get out their energy is high. This form of exercise also allows them to socialize, which is an excellent benefit for your dog’s mental health.

Teach Them Tricks

After the initial stages of training your dog, there is not much more mental training going on in their life. It is just as important to focus on your dog’s mental health as well as their physical health. When you teach your dog a new trick, it aids in expanding their mind and exercising their cognitive function.

Whichever way you decide to get your dog up and exercising, it is sure to improve their behavior and health. A happy and healthy dog is the best kind of dog!
