Blog Keeping Your Dog Warm During the Winter
It’s winter. The snow is not falling here in Palm Beach but the temperature outside is much below chilly. Your best friend lies with you on the couch with his body tucked close to yours and he’s shivering. You’re not sure what you can do to keep your dog warm during winter.
It’s not fair to your pup for you to be warm and cozy with blankets and a sweater while he’s doing the best he can to share body heat with you.
Here’s a few ways you can keep your dog warm this winter:
Keep them Indoors
Bring your dog indoors. Just because it’s only 60 degrees out doesn’t mean that your dog needs to stay outside. You have at least one layer of clothing on when it’s 60 out so bringing your dog in to help keep him warm should be no big deal.
Doggy Sweaters
Some people are against them. Some people think they are adorable. No matter what your stance on doggy sweaters putting your dog in
one for the winter is very safe. You require a sweater and so does your dog. A waterproof sweater/jacket is recommended for when you
take your dog outside.
More Food
Dogs burn more calories trying to stay warm. Feeding your dog a little more than usual during the winter is advised. Especially if your dog is still going outside to get his exercise as opposed to inside.
Proper Bedding
This one is important. It’ recommended that the bed be at least 3 inches off the floor. Creating a low platform to put the bed on will do just the trick. Making one out of wood will be just fine. Even if your dog sleeps with you this is recommended. Chances are he lays in his own bed when you are not home.
Warm the Heart
What better way to warm up a dog then to give him a treat and a belly rub. All dogs love food and attention. The occasional treat and
belly rub is certain to warm up your dogs heart. If you’re anything like us you probably do it more than on the occasion.
Keeping your dog warm during the winter should be a priority. It’s harder for a dog to warm up than it is for you. Make sure to get everything ready in the early fall so you’re dog is ready for winter. Snow or no snow your dog will be cold if it’s not hot out.
